1. The 'Cheaper Alternative' Trap (Aurora & Beyond)
I once swapped a spec from a known brand to what I thought was an equivalent from a different manufacturer to save $1,200 on a 40-fixture job. The brand? Let's call it a budget option, not a Cooper Lighting Solutions Aurora series.
Everything I'd read online said lumens were lumens.
Two months in, three fixtures flickered on and off. The client called, frustrated. I went out, checked connections, swapped drivers. Still flickered. The root cause? The internal driver was not UL-listed for the specific voltage min/max in that building. The unit was powering down due to brownouts.
